A SAFE PLACE
“Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” Psalm 90:1,2 (NIV)
We live in a time of unprecedented natural disasters: tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes claim the lives of thousands and cause billions of dollars in damage around the world each year.
It can be easy for us to begin wondering if there is any hiding place down here. Some might be tempted to take comfort in avoiding certain “more dangerous” regions, but the truth is trouble is all around us.
These calamities in the natural world are only compounded by more personal storms that wreak internal havoc: relational troubles, financial crisis, health challenges and the passing of loved ones. This planet has become a dangerous and disturbing place to live.
But we are comforted by these words of Moses that affirm the true dwelling place of the faithful--we live in God; and what a sturdy place to call home! When mountains crumble and the earth gives way, God will keep on being God. Living by faith “in Him” will always be the safest place to be.
